Another dollar store is coming to town.

Although there isn't a confirmed date, representatives said efforts to ready a new Dollarama are ramping up.

Lyla Radmanovich of National Public Relations confirmed Wednesday that a Dollarama store will be opening next year in Paris. Mark Ortelli of Dollarama, said the store should open in the first quarter of 2012 in the 300 block of Grand River Street North, where there was once a Home Hardware store.< >Ortelli spent Tuesday exploring options to advertise locally for employees to staff the store.

With the news of a Dollarama opening in the north end of Paris on Grand River Street North, locals and shoppers have mixed opinions. The owner of a dollar store in downtown Paris had no comment on the impending opening of a competitor, but patrons of the store had plenty to say.

"It's not a good idea," said Pauline Whittington of Paris. "I want people to come downtown." Whittington is a frequent visitor to the store.

Susan Monahan, a former Paris resident, also stops by the shop often. "He has a lot of good stuff, but I can see how that might take some business away," Monahan said of Dollarama. "It might have different things to offer." She added that there is nothing better than competition, and it may make downtown business flourish.

Friends Isabel Clemmer and Pat Vinandy of Cambridge make the trek to Paris at least once a month for shopping and visit the Paris dollar store. "He always has a nice selection of stickers for my piano students and cards," Vinandy said. The ladies were convinced they would have no reason to shop there at Dollarama. "We have those at home," Clemmer said. "That's not why we're here. He always makes an effort to buy Canadian too."

Sarah Greene, a Paris resident for five years, believes the new franchise moving in is unfortunate for the local dollar store since he "started on his own and made it a success." "If he continues to carry what I want, I'll continue to shop there," Greene said.

Founded in 1992, Dollarama has 667 stores across Canada, 10 of which have opened in the last three months.
