NATIONAL RETAILER OPEN IN EXETER THIS SPRING
EXETER TIMES-ADVOCATE

SOUTH HURON — While the property owner won't reveal the name of the business yet, a discount retailer plans to be open in the former Darling's grocery store building at the corner of Main and Sanders streets in the spring of 2010.

Planning assistant Tristalyn Russell attended Monday's council meeting to discuss the development and update council on what is happening at the property.

Canadian Commercial Development co-ordinator Lee Greenwood wouldn't reveal the name of the business that will occupy the building, but told the T-A Monday night the discount retailer has 600 stores across Canada and will be new to the community.

He said interior renovations should start in January and it's hoped the business opens in the spring.

Among the plans for the property are paving the parking lot. In a letter to the municipality Greenwood said renovation plans for the building include new ceiling tiles, surface-mounted lights, vinyl tile, paint and the replacement of toilets.

"Canadian Commercial has a long history of successful retail development and we are excited to bring a new merchant to the community," he wrote.

As requested by Canadian Commercial Development, the municipality has granted site plan control exemption for the property. In her report, Russell said the Canadian Commercial plans "minor cosmetic renovations" for the interior and that "interior renovations with no alterations to the exterior of a building are exempt from site plan control."
